MEET THE CREATOR

Sight2Cite is the culmination of a journey that began decades ago in the mind of a little girl who jumped Double-Dutch rope on the streets of Philadelphia, PA, and used her crayons and watercolors to create images that far exceeded the capacity of the average kindergartner.

That girl, Veretta (Wiley) Tillman, is the daughter of an amazing songstress, Maye Wiley, and a world-renowned saxophonist, Ed Wiley Jr., both of whom encouraged her to develop her artistic inclinations as a means to express her creativity and as a way to escape the racial turmoil that roiled in the community of Levittown, PA, where the family relocated when she was 7 years old.

Veretta found solace in her faith in God and her strong family connection, and was nourished on literature, piano and violin lessons, sewing and drawing. “My mother got us all library cards, and I relished our weekly visits to the library. I devoured all kinds of books, and my imagination blossomed,” says Veretta. “Our home was always flooded with music, art and a passion for education and learning.”

After graduating from high school, Veretta turned down a government stenographer job (to the chagrin of her high school guidance counselor) and headed off to The King’s College in Briarcliff, Manor, NY, which would be a life-changing experience. She credits the tenacity and direction of her mother — a strong God-driven woman – for her decision to go to King’s, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Religious Education and acquired long-lasting friendships. She remained in New York for the following two years and landed a job as an assistant to the production manager at Christian Herald Magazine in Pleasantville, NY. “My love for art was really nurtured during this time,” she says.

A year later, she packed all she could fit in two suitcases and boarded a Greyhound bus to Fort Worth, Texas, to further her education at Southwestern Theological Seminary. It was there that she met her future husband, Jeremiah. After receiving her Master of Arts in Communications, they married.

Over the years, Veretta has assumed the role as a chaplain’s wife, a pastor’s wife, mother of two bright, creative children, a home-schooler and teacher in her county school system, which allowed her to use the creativity that God blessed her with.

Sight 2 Cite is a God-inspired outcome of a love for sharing in a way that assists the memorization of Bible passages/scriptures and stories. With her amazing teaching tool, she has brought life to the words of various texts. You, too, will be able to do so as you share what you have memorized.
